Yesterday: High: 99, Low: 72, no rain . . . but TS Eduoard is making his presence known, and we have rain this morning (yay!)
Well, my first one at this house, anyway. At our last house, we had a lovely monarch caterpillar eat up all my parsley, but it was so worth it to see it come out of it’s cocoon and fly away. My husband had to help it onto our back fence so it could get some sunlight.
THIS guy, though, is different. He was HUGE! Like four inches long, about half an inch in diameter. And while he was very pretty, he was eating my tomatoes! And from the looks of it, had been for quite some time.
After I found him, identified him, and decided he was not someone I wanted to feed, I shook him off the plant into a jar (I got stung by an asp, and haven’t really wanted to touch a caterpillar since), and let him expire.
For others finding weird caterpillars in the Houston area:
What’s this caterpillar?!
If your caterpillar is HUGE with a spine on one end it is probably a Hornworm of some kind
