Missed one

Yesterday: High: 96, Low: 79, no rain, but the humidity says we need some rain to get rid of this moisture!

I have two fruit trees. Correction. I have one fruit tree, a satsuma mandarin orange, and my daughter has one fruit tree, a Meyer lemon tree. We bought them at a fruit tree sale put on every year by the Fort Bend Master Gardeners this year. They are a little over two years old now, and still shouldn’t be allowed to have fruit ripen. But they really want to! For months after getting them, I was pulling baby lemons and a few baby satsumas off the twiglike trees.

Yesterday, my daughter comes in from playing out back and says, “Mommy, you have a lime on your tree, come see!” I was thinking, aw dang . . . I have to start pulling baby fruit off again? Wrong.

Satsuma!

I missed a satsuma. And it has hidden in the back of my twiglike tree for months, growing. As you can see, it is pretty much full size now, so I didn’t really see the point in pulling it off. I may as well let it finish growing and turn orange. There are constantly surprises in the garden, aren’t there? I’m glad this was a pleasant one.
